People may argue that the ability of producing great landing pages is a bit of an art form. And this is true too – but if you can get your basics clear, you may easily start making landing pages that convert insanely.
In this post I have written the top 5 tips for creating a landing page that I have learned over the time. These have helped me a lot in making insanely high converting landing pages.
First Of All, What’s A Landing Page?
A landing page in a webpage that you use to collect the email address and other details of your prospect buyer. This is usually in exchange for some sort of freebie that they’ll receive after opting in. It may include a report, an eBook, subscription to your newsletter, set of videos or similar free stuff.
The only purpose of a landing page is to get your email address. That’s it. It should not have anything else that may distract your visitor.
An example of a landing page is : Newsletter (link broken, work in progress). Go check that page out. There’s a lot of good information on the other side. See how I have created that page. Once you get there, there’s no distraction what-so-ever and all you can do is put your name and email address and hit enter.
Solves the need of a landing page, isn’t it?
How To Create High Converting Landing Pages
Now, let us talk about the top 5 tips for creating a high converting landing page that’ll help you get insanely high conversion rate.
Tip # 1 – Give away a quality freebie
There was a time when you could offer a free report on pretty much anything and people would sign up for it simply because it was free. This isn’t the case any more. People are becoming more and more choosey about what they will swap their name and email address for.
So the first thing you should take care of when producing a good landing page is to make sure your freebie is of high quality and is something people in your niche will actually want and may even pay for. I have seen people working so hard on making their freebies that they can easily sell it off for $37 or something similar.
The best freebies that I have found converting really well are my story type eBooks. In these type of eBooks you write your story on how you succeeded in something and how people can do the same. Example – How I Made 15k In 45 Days Online, How I Lost 50 Pounds In Under 2 Weeks, How I Left Drugs In Just A Month etc.
Tip # 2 – Make Sure Your Copy Makes Your Freebie ‘Irresistible’
Copy means the text you write in your landing page that people read when they visit it. If you can convince your visitors that what you’re offering is something that is of far more value than their email – they will sign up.
Your copy should pull out all the juicy bits of what they’ll get and make it such that they simply can’t turn down your offer. Make sure you keep your copy small and to the point. People have very short attention span and they’ll not read your 1000 words copy.
Keep in mind that you can’t just step out there and write a great copy by tonight. Writing irresistible landing pages require a lot of testing to find out what works and what does’nt. The easiest thing you do is go and check out the landing pages of the top marketers in your niche and see what they’re doing. Look at how they are writing their copy. Look how long the copy is and what points it emphasizes the most. I have found this little trick very helpful and it has saved me a lot of time that I would have wasted in testing again and again.
Tip # 3 – Have a catchy title
Make the first sentence of your copy so attractive that is makes your visitors want to read more. Also make sure that the title of your freebie is very catchy. Remember what I told you earlier in # 1. Make your title in such a way that it stirs the emotions of your visitors and make them want to know more of what’s inside.
You may have seen free reports being given away with the title “10 Top Tips To …”. But those don’t work anymore. In the current internet world this is seen as BORING. Give your freebie a catchy title and make it stand out. Take a look at the best selling products in your niche and look at the sorts of product names they use.
Tip # 4 – Use Pictures And Graphics
Spend the time or invest money into creating good quality graphics for your landing pages. In my opinion this is the most important step towards producing a good landing page.
Of course there are plenty of them out there which have no graphics at all (and it seems to be an increasingly popular trend) but if you take that route then you need to be able to write really good copy. If you use high quality pictures your copy won’t need to be as good and it’ll still convert at a decent rate.
One more thing you should consider doing is using your picture on your landing page. After your copy ends, put your name and your picture at bottom. This will help you gain the trust of your visitors and they’ll be more likely to opt-in. It also helps you connect with them emotionally. They’ll feel secured that there’s a person on the other end whom they can contact if they need further help.
Tip # 5 – Make It Look Good
Imagine if every landing page on the earth looked like this:
7 out of every 10 landing pages I have ever seen looks like the one shown above. You may also have one that looks the same. The problem with these type of landing pages is that people are very used to them. Like me they’ve also seen a lot of them.
A lot of people may land on your landing page only to get out quickly and that too just by getting the feel that its the same old thing and they’ll have to enter their email address. They may not even read what you have to offer.
Don’t piss them off. Give their eyes some fancy delight. Use graphics and css to make your page look good and they’ll want to learn more about what you have to offer and end up entering their email. You can take my Newsletter (link broken, work in progress) page for example.
Apply these tips to your landing pages and see how well it works out for you.
Looking for high converting landing pages?
If you are looking to buy some high converting landing page templates that you can directly plug into your website then have a look at Theme Forest’s Landing Page Templates. They have over 400+ landing page templates that start at as low as just $8 (one time). Just go to the link and browse through to see if you find a template that suits your needs.
Some suggestions before you go to their website:
- Buy only the templates that have some rating on it (4.5 or more). The templates that don’t have any ratings are new and may have some bugs, so its better not to buy them.
- Also look at the number of sales that the template has, higher sales usually means better quality templates.
- Buy at least two (or more) templates so that you can A/B test between them. We can never be sure which landing page will work best until we perform tests.
